Cassidy Sparks New Life for Bruins

The Boston Bruins gain a second life this season, after recently firing 10-year head coach Claude Julien midway through the season. Interim head coach, Bruce Cassidy, has lit a fire under the Bruins, almost like magic. Ryan Linchey of Portsmouth High School says, “Julien was too predictable, it was time for a change.” Currently, the Bruins are 12-5 under Cassidy, giving them a chance at playoffs. A chance that seemed impossible this season under Julien.

Cassidy has changed how the Bruins play, but keeps the same system. The Bruins are playing much more aggressively, which leaves less time for defense. Previously, under Julien, they were more defensive, playing safe hockey. Under Cassidy, they are pinching, forechecking,  and taking more chances than ever before. And it’s working.

The Bruins offense is one of the best in many years. With two time NHL All-Star Patrice Bergeron, leading scorer, and second in the league in points, Brad Marchand, and newly acquired David Backes, they are a force to be reckoned with. “Brad Marchand is having the best season of his career by far, I don’t think anyone expected this kind of year,” added Luke Squire of PHS.
