How Badly Is the Warmer Weather Affecting Us?

In New Hampshire, we have had a very relatively warm winter, but the weather has been constantly changing. The past decade has been the hottest on record for some places in the United States, such as Yellowstone. Climate change has a major affect on people and animals.

“Do you think the warmer weather this year is affecting us and other animals badly?” Is what Mrs. McGlinchey was asked. Her answer was “I don’t know that it’s affecting us as much, but very much other animals and plants yes… I was in Florida and energy costs were way up because of the heat.”

According to the National Park service, the first grizzly bear sighting was confirmed to be on February 9th this year in Yellowstone National Park. This is much earlier than usual which can lead to bad habits. It’s very likely that this is due to climate change. According to Al Nash of the National Park service, “In mid-February, grizzlies aren’t usually on the minds of the cross-country skiers and snowshoers in the park, so hopefully we can get the word out to be on the lookout.” This is believed to have an impact on the future because when the bears come out too early it can create that bad habit.

The bears aren’t the only ones being affected by warmer weather, we are too. Warmer average temperatures can lead to hotter days in a lot of places in the United States, more frequent, longer heat waves. According to https://www.epa.gov, “These changes will lead to an increase in heat-related deaths in the United States—reaching as much as thousands to tens of thousands of additional deaths each year by the end of the century during summer months.” Despite how many people are psyched from the warm weather in Northern states, it’s not going to help people closer to the equator.
