Joey Glynn, Portsmouth Clippers’ senior big man, has been named Gatorade player of the year for his work on the court during the 2016-2017 season. Glynn has been a basketball player on the varsity squad since freshman year. He’s been a dominant player in the state, and it’s an award that shows his hard work and dedication throughout the years. A reporter from the PaperClip was able to catch up with Glynn and ask him a few questions on his career in high school basketball. The Q & A with Glynn is below:

Q: What was your favorite championship to play in?

A: “The second one because it showed the hard work I’ve put in over the last year.”

Q: What was your best memory from basketball?

A: “Being able to play aside my brother on the court”

Q: How does it feel playing in your high school last game?

A: “It’s a bittersweet feeling looking back knowing you’re just gonna miss it all in the end”

Q:  Who influenced you the most during the season?

A:  “Coach Mulvey, because he constantly was trying to make everyone better and bring out the best athlete that we could be.”

Q: Is basketball going to continue to be a part of your future?

A: “Yes, hopefully it will. I’ll try my best to play in college and continue a high-level of play.”

Q: What drove you to play basketball?

A: “Just the love for the game. I really just love it”.

Q: What would you change about your career?

A: “If I were to change one thing, I would get more involved and work harder at playing. You always can get better in some way.”

Glynn ended his season and career at PHS among the 1,000-point scores, two state titles, and now as the  Gatorade Player of the Year. Congrats Joey Glynn!
