After winning two state championships in a row, the Portsmouth High School’s boys lacrosse team starts prepping and getting ready for this upcoming season.

They lost many valuable graduating players last year including Peter Wool, Max Brown, Dominic Maldari, and many more.

“We have potential of winning but we have lost a lot of seniors so we have to step it up,” said Henry Ranilla, a PHS senior. The boys lacrosse team still has many threats to other teams including Zac Amend, Nick Smith, and Gunner Jackson.

“I think that the energy coming into this season is like every other year, the boys want to improve and get better. They want to win,” said Andrew Timerman, a junior defenseman.

When asked what his opinions were on the upcoming season Timerman responded with ¨if we work harder I think we could have a positive outcome and come out with another state win, but that’s only if our team puts in the grind.¨

Timerman also talked about his concerns saying “we need to start taking practice more seriously.”

He also mentioned that in order for the team to win, “we need someone to step up and play short-stick defensive middie since we lost many of ours last year. Brady Killroy is our only short-stick defensive middie.”

Rantilla also agrees with one of Timerman’s statements saying that “the teams need to take things more seriously.”

Many players are worried about their rivals Derryfield as Timerman said ¨I think Derryfield is going to be a tough matchup this year.¨

Derryfield was the team that Portsmouth defeated last year during the Division ll State Championship game. Portsmouth ended victorious with a score of Portsmouth 16 against Derryfield 10.

The players say that they are set and ready for this upcoming season and they do believe that they have the opportunity to win another state championship.
