Jay Krecklow and wife Stacy recently opened up a new Portsmouth restaurant called Ohana. Offering something new and different, the Hawaiian restaurant features inspired dishes including poke bowls and sushi burritos.

On their menu, they have signature dishes and build your own No Limits Poké, while vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options are also available.

I personally wanted to try this because I am a big sushi lover. Looking at the menu as a student who, as of right now, doesn’t have a job, the price of one sushi burrito is around $8-11. They have a few options for the bowls and burritos but I was expecting more of a selection.

The staff was very nice and welcoming. I went up and ordered my burrito, and I chose the Spicy Crunchy Ahi to go. It came in a little brown box and it was nicely wrapped into two halves. I was super excited to try it.

I took the first bite and I was so amazed by how well the spicy sauce went with the salmon and veggies inside the burrito. The seaweed and cucumber gave a nice refreshing burst to the palate. This one bite helped me determine if I liked it or not.

I tried the sauce that was in the burrito alone and I didn’t like it, but when the sauce was inside of the burrito it blended really well with the onions and the sesame seeds. It was really easy to eat because of how tight the sushi was wrapped. The salmon was cut into chunks, and personally, I can only eat raw salmon when it is in smaller pieces so I took out some of it out so I could finish it.

In my opinion, I enjoyed this but I don’t think I would choose the same burrito since I ended up finishing one half. I interviewed employee Riley Emery who is also a former Portsmouth High School student. I asked her if she enjoys working there “the employees are honestly some of the best people I’ve ever met along with my incredible managers. I couldn’t have asked for a better job.” Her favorite part about working there is “The people 100%. I love talking with the customers and with my coworkers, it makes the time fly.”

I also asked what dish is the most ordered and she said “The Spicy Crunchy Ahi Bowl”

Overall I would recommend trying Ohana if you haven’t yet!
