Reeses, candy corns, skittles, M&M’s, Twix, Kit Kats….it’s almost Halloween and time for the candy-eating to begin!

Around the world, children from all over have been receiving special treats since the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain. This festival included lighting bonfires and wearing costumes to fight off ghosts. The Irish have been celebrating this native holiday for 2,000 years. Since then, Halloween has spread to the U.S, Canada, Mexico, England, Bangkok, Columbia, Hong Kong, Romania, and the Middle East. It all started in the United Kingdom, specifically Ireland, as a holiday to celebrate superstition. Pope Gregory III assigned November 1st to be a time to honor all saints. The night before this was called All Hallows Eve (now known as Halloween). The idea of trick or treating came about, to make All Hallows Eve kid friendly. This is how we know Halloween as the fun night to dress up and receive loads of yummy candy.
