SPOILER ALERTS BELOW

As a devoted Star Wars fan who follows all of these characters as carefully as possible, I am over the moon about a final ending to this epic series. Now, I didn’t grow up when it came out and the excitement of the avant-garde movie was over the moon, but I have since watched all the movies  and can see that energy and contribute to it myself.

Now, let’s try and set us up a little bit for this new movie by looking through a quick recap of the movies so far. In the first three movies, the sequels that came before the prequels, we meet Luke Skywalker, who gets in cahoots with Han Solo and his furry friend Chewbacca, as they help save a beautiful Princess Leia, who is being held hostage by the evil Empire, and the even more cruel Darth Vader. Everybody manages to make it out alive, but they face a deadly attack from the Imperial Forces (the Empire) and Luke goes to the rainy planet Dagobah in search of a small green creature by the name of Yoda, who holds a magnitude of powers and abilities to help them with their battle. Later, Luke has to battle the evil Jabba the Hutt, and Han and Leia, along with two droids C3PO and R2D2, put their forces together with Lando Calrissian to try and defeat Darth Vader and the evil forces behind his operation.

At the very end of these epic episodes of action, Luke is with Darth Vader as the evil dictator is dying, when he reveals to the young Jedi that he is his father. What comes with this is  one of the most famous lines in movie history: “Luke, I am your father.” This sets us up for the next three movies, which are in fact prequels, that essentially take us through the story of Luke’s father, formerly known as Anakin Skywalker, and how he became the heinous Darth Vader. Now, these movies aren’t very good compared to the grandeur of the first three, so there isn’t any need for a recap of these ones. But, then we are almost at the end of this thrilling rollercoaster, and here comes The Force Awakens.

The Force Awakens centers around a young woman named Rey thirty years after the defeat of the Galactic Empire. A former pilot from the Empire crash lands on Rey’s planet and they soon join forces to face a new deadly threat: a villain that calls himself Kylo Ren. This is Episode VII. So, now that we’re all caught up to date here, let’s focus on the good stuff – Episode VIII, the long-awaited finale where we will hopefully find out what Luke Skywalker has been doing all this time.

After watching the trailer, I am so pumped! It has all the action, suspense and fighting you would ever want from a movie, and some really intriguing scenes. For instance, one of the last parts that they show in the trailer is Kylo Ren (yes, that conniver is still kicking around) reaching out for Rey’s hand, and she seems to take it. This is baffling lots of Star Wars fans, so let’s hear from some in our own school.

I talked to sophomore Emma Savage, who is an avid Star Wars lover: “I am really excited for the new movie. It seems really intense – especially the music. I love listening to it because it adds so much detail and description to the scenes. My favorite character was Rey, but now seeing this new side of Kylo Ren makes him my favorite.”

I also talked to junior Anna Gagnon, who I love to fangirl about Star Wars with: “I think the new trailer is amazing. I am one who likes to listen more to the music than the actual performance, and it almost moved me to tears. For me, that’s the sign of a great movie, so I am really looking forward to it.” Awesome!

There you have two opinions – and hopefully you’re getting just as excited as I am about it. I don’t know how I’m going to stand waiting until December 15th.
