Summer Fashion Trends for 2017

Carmen Cheney, Writer

Summer is back and packed full of all kinds of fresh looks and trends that you should watch out for. In recent times, aesthetics have become a really significant part of creating the best OOTD (outfit of the day), and this summer, unlike many summers past, you can accomplish your fashion dreams in a variety of styles. From popular aesthetics, to colors and material, here is everything you need to know about clothes for the summer of 2k17.

Fashion of 2017 to Watch Out For

THE LITTLE THINGS

Those who are passionate and attentive to their wardrobe understand that even the littlest things can make or break a whole outfit. Whether it be a tank top that just doesn’t fit right or a choker that was worn on the right day, things as small and simple as the cut or color of a shirt can change everything. These are the little things that will matter most this year.

  1. Nude colors and shades are everything right now, from daily makeup to dresses and gowns. So really pay attention to those nude and “dusted” colors when shopping. Some prime examples of colors would be colors like black, beige, dusted red, grey, camo, dusted pink, and most importantly army green.
  2. Suede is on the rise and it’s rising fast. Suede has been the fabric of the year so far due to its boojee appeal. Anything from a little suede choker to a full out dress will up your closet’s anti.
  3. Acrylic nails are a fashion icon’s best friend. Acrylic nails have been popularizing due to the same boojee appeal as suede material, as well as how entertaining they are to watch be applied and decorated.
  4. Fishnet leggings. Fishnet leggings are becoming HUGE in common fashion, and have only been growing more and more iconic by the day. Wear a pair of black fishnet leggings under some ripped jeans or booty shorts, and really bring in those young, reckless, free-spirited vibes to your outfit. Once these really take off, it’s expected that fishnet shirts won’t be too far behind.
  5. 2 words. Tiny. Backpacks. Miniature backpacks are the MOST aesthetically pleasing thing you could carry with you this summer. Though they aren’t the most functional, they will have your Instagram likes skyrocketing if you can pair it with the right outfit.
  6. Glitter. Not exactly prime for everyday wear, but definitely fun to use. Glitter is a very good thing to have if you love to rock that Coachella vibe. Alongside the infamous highlight trend that is alive and well right now, glitter is perfect for highlighting your highlight… if that makes sense. Instagram is the place to go if you’re ever looking for some glitter inspiration and guidelines.

BACK AGAIN

   “Guess who’s back. Back again.”

The 90s is who! These trends are back and ready to attack, leaving your closet water-ready, and your hair city-trendy.

  1. Ah, the middle part. During the 90s, everyone who parted their hair dead center was on top of their hair game. But when the side part came along, the middle part became a risky look. As of the past few months, the middle part has slowly come back to the spotlight.
  2. Front bangs, an icon of the past. Well they are the big kid on the block again. A thin set of front bangs are a great way to bring an element of maturity and trendiness to your style.
  3. After the long rule of the bikini, it looks like the one piece is fighting back with force. One piece swimwear has been hitting high value in the fashion world so far this year, and is looking to hold up strong for a few more summers, so catch on while its early!

AESTHETICS

Sometimes everyone needs some outfit inspiration, and we are here to give it to you. These are current fashion aesthetics and looks you could recreate so you can slay this summer away.

  1. A long length sweater, short shorts, thigh high boots, sunglasses; a look for those sunny but cool or maybe breezy summer days.
  2. Boyfriend jeans, vintage t-shirt, matching denim jacket, and Adidas originals; a look for a warm summer night in the city.
  3. Faux fur jacket, matching colored top, black shorts, fish net leggings, holographic platform shoes; a risky look, but incredibly aesthetically pleasing if worn right. This outfit is the truest to the heart of Coachella, which has been growing into the aesthetic statement of the year.
  4. Boho long vests, rompers, and sun hats; also known as your beach wear best friend. A comfy romper will be your life saver after a swim in the blue waters, and accessories to vibe the day way with your friends. 10 out of 10, would recommend.
