Since the start of 2022, Wordle has been one of the most popular online games. Students, teachers, and adults play Wordle daily, many forming quite an intense habit with the daily playing of the game.

Wordle is a word guessing game where players try to solve a 5 letter word in 6 tries. Feedback is given for each guess in the form of colored tiles indicating if the letters match or if they are in the right spot. 

Cheating is an issue when it comes to Wordle. People use WordFinderX, and google the answer when they do not know the answer.

Since the NY Times bought Wordle in January, people have been looking up the answers more often. Since the new ownership, the words are more difficult than before.

New Hampshire is a state where cheating is an issue. According to WordFinderX, New Hampshire frequently cheats the most while playing Wordle. Over the past month, New Hampshire along with other New England states, have been guilty of looking at google search the most often.

According to some students of PHS, many play the game truthfully rather than opting for the easier out with cheating. Out of 40 people asked, 28 people play Wordle the right way, and 12 people cheat while playing.

A daily Wordle player and senior at PHS, Dylan Palermo had lots to say about why people cheat when they play Wordle. He responded by saying “it defeats the purpose of playing Wordle when you already know the answer.” Palermo stated, “cheaters don’t deserve to play if they don’t do it the right way.”  

One of the self-identified Wordle cheaters, Will Poteet, a senior at PHS, was asked about why he cheats playing Wordle. He said, “I want the satisfaction of getting it right, so occasionally I do cheat because I am terrible at Wordle.”

When Matthew Minckler, a junior at PHS was asked if he cheats playing the game. He said, “ Sometimes, I do it to keep my streak and Wordle is a part of my routine.” 

With Wordle still being one of the most popular games to play right now, as more people will start playing perhaps more people will find ways to cheat.
