Throughout the past couple weeks, I have been buying and reviewing some of the top rated steak and cheese in the Portsmouth area. I went to the Breadbox, Portsmouth Pizza Factory, and Carl’s Meat Market. I rated them out of 10, with 0 being inedible, 5 being average, and 10 being the best possible experience. 

The first steak and cheese sandwich I reviewed was from the Breadbox. The Breadbox has a rating of 4.2 out of 5 stars on Google, but it is primarily a pizza place. After tax, the twelve inch sandwich ended up costing me $10.51. It was ready within 25 minutes of me ordering and was warm when I picked it up. The pieces of steak were bigger than an average steak and cheese. Overall it had okay flavor, but nothing special. I would give it a 5/10.

The second sandwich I reviewed was from the Pizza Factory. They have a rating of 3.9 out of 5 stars on Google. It was ready within 30 minutes of me ordering, and the ordering process was very easy. The twelve inch sandwich ended up costing me $13.17 after tax, so it was the most expensive sandwich on the list. The steak pieces were cut up very small and full of flavor. It also had a good cheese to meat ratio. I would give it a 7/10.

The third and final sandwich I reviewed was the steak and cheese from Carl’s Meat Market. They have a rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars on Google. The ordering process was slightly more difficult, with me having to order over the phone rather than online like the other restaurants, however still very easy. The food was ready within twenty minutes of us ordering and was warm when we got it. The total after tax was $8.63 for the ten inch sub. This made it the cheapest option, but it is important to note this sub was only 10 inches, while the others were both 12. The steak pieces were big chunks, but very tender. They were also made with a flavorful marinade and coated in very gooey cheese.

When I asked local steak and cheese enthusiast Dennis Bolduc how he liked the sandwich, he replied,”This is hands down the best steak and cheese in the Portsmouth area”. Also despite the subs size, it had as much if not more meat than the others. Overall I would not have made any changes to the sub. With the cheap price, good flavor, and quick turnaround, I am giving it a 9.9/10, and crowning it the best steak and cheese in the Portsmouth area.
