For most Portsmouth High School students, grades are very important. Grades affect a student’s future in many cases,  and PHS students work hard to keep their grades in top shape.

For the 2019-2020 school year, PHS made the switch from a 7 point grade scale to a 10 point grade scale.

The topic has always been a little controversial, although people are reacting well.

Students are very happy with the result of the grade boost. Julianna Hillman, a junior at PHS, said, “it has impacted how I’m doing in school in a major way.”

Elly McLaughlin, a senior at PHS said, “I would have preferred it to be changed my freshman or sophomore year, so it affected my grades all of high school.”

Teachers, however, haven’t noticed as big of a difference. Mrs. Martin, who has been teaching at PHS for 20 years said, “I feel impartial.”

As we continue on through the 2019-2020 school year, the hope is for grades of PHS students to remain high!
