Each August, the Portsmouth Clipper football team pads up and gets out there for the first practices. But, this fall, one key player to the Portsmouth Clipper Football team might not be suiting up.

Last season, against Alvirne High School, Cody Graham’s leg gave out during a tackle and he instantly knew something was wrong. For the rest of the season, Senior Christian Peete stepped up and played quarterback and led Portsmouth to their first win against Exeter in 20 years, winning 14-7. Freshman Nico Dallacosta also took a few snaps this season as well. With talk of “Cody who” for the last half of the season, that statement might be a reality next season.

Diagnosed with a partially torn MCL, a fully torn PCL and a piece of his meniscus ripped off, Graham will be out for sixth months trying to heal his injury, but will he be back in time as the Clippers begin their fourth season in Division I?

Graham said, “I would love to play next year” but the reality is his leg might not be healed in time. That brings the Clippers down to very limited choices as freshman quarterback Nico Dallacosta is out for five months after having surgery on his shoulder. This leaves Portsmouth’s quarterback depth chart very slim.

The question still remains as to whether Graham will be back for next season or if the Head Coach, Brian Pafford will have to make adjustments to the depth chart to see who the next starting quarterback could be.
