The Portsmouth High School freshmen class of 2029 recently held elections for the class senate on October 20, 2025.
Although official positions will be determined through an internal election and will be announced at a later date, the 12 members of the senate have just been finalized.
The official elected members are: Mateo Altamar, Daisy Baker, Maximilian (Max) Baumgart, Kate Bonita, Mark Cheney, Stella Kalil, Max Lefebvre, Hadley Maloney, Anna Parker, Lukas Ricker, Cam Stacy, and Samantha Stokel.
When interviewed about her long-term plans as a senate member, Samantha Stokel said her plans include ways “to make Portsmouth High School a place where everyone feels included” and she is “brainstorming ways that [PHS] can get everyone involved.”
Stokel “wants input from the student body” before making big decisions, such as the use of the class budget.
Another elected official, Lukas Ricker, talks about his plans to use his role in the senate to “help out less fortunate [students] that may not have access to certain things.” Ricker plans to do this by “start[ing] more fundraisers … and different types of drives, like food and clothing drives” throughout the year.
Hadley Maloney, an additional member of the Senate, discusses “taking the leadership role[s] in most group settings is something that comes naturally to [her].”
Maloney also discusses “wanting to step up, and make use of [her] voice to create powerful, meaningful differences in our school.” She is looking forward to “fundraising, learning how the council as a whole works, and forming connections throughout the class.”
“Judging by the strong pool of candidates and the quality of their speeches,” says Michelle Wheeler, the Co-Adviser of the Student Council and a social studies teacher here at PHS, “the Class of 2029 is clearly an active and engaged group, ready for an exciting four years at PHS.”
