Laws in our country are constantly changing and evolving. But there is one topic that has been a recurring headline recently: Abortion Laws.
The United States Supreme Court overruled Roe vs. Wade in June of 2022 and gave individual states the power to determine whether or not abortion should be legal in their state.
Abortion is currently legal in NH. “The law bans abortion at 24 weeks and parental notification remains in effect,” as stated in Planned Parenthood’s website.
After 24 weeks, women are not able to get an abortion unless they meet certain exceptions, such as, if the woman or fetus’s life or physical health is at risk, according to an article by Holly Ramer published in AP News. Additionally, if you are under the age of 18, parental permission is required to perform the abortion in New Hampshire.
In 1973 Roe V. Wade was passed, making abortion legal in all 50 states after many years of it being illegal throughout the country. Because of the overturning, one in three women live in a state where they do not have access to an abortion, according to the Planned Parenthood website. After just a few months of Roe V. Wade being overturned, 18 states either banned or restricted abortion to an extreme extent, and other states are still working on passing bans.
