The Portsmouth High School boy’s Ice Hockey team, The Clipper Mules, has a couple of games left before the playoffs begin. This season, injuries and illness have been an obstacle that the team has had to learn to overcome.
The PHS Ice Hockey team’s most recent record is 1-4-1. With a couple of games remaining the team is trying to secure a spot in the playoffs. The standing is what will get them in the playoffs.
However, two starting players are injured right now with broken wrists and many with illnesses throughout the season.
“The younger players will have to step up,” Joel Brown, coach of the PHS Ice Hockey team, said.
Coach Brown has faith in the senior class to rise up and continue to set a good example and be good leaders for the underclassmen stepping up in big games.
Ben Purcell, a PHS junior and ice hockey team member, mentioned that it will be a big team effort to make it to the playoffs and that they have to play every game from start to finish.
Coach Brown focused on week-to-week games and strategies but said that the seniors would be good mentors if they did make it to the playoffs. Patrick Slover, a captain for the Ice Hockey team, helped them get to the championship game his sophomore year.
Slover said that “Keeping everyone up and not dwelling on the losses, is what can help prepare the team.”
Getting the little things cleaned up and the whole team on the same page with getting the puck cleared can help the PHS Ice Hockey team work together for the next few games.
The next game is Saturday, January, 20 at 6 pm against Monadnock Regional High School at the Dover Ice Arena.
