Portsmouth High School students have been gossiping about their senior prom. Rumors have been spread that there may not be a senior prom, or that the prom will just be a dinner. Some students were not happy about this news.
After addressing the student council, it has been confirmed that a senior banquet will be happening and will not just be a dinner.
“We are calling it a banquet because that’s what [student council] called it before Covid-19, and then it changed back to prom last year,” said Nicola Berlucchi, PHS senior and student council member.
Student council wants to call the event a banquet to make it seem less formal, although it will be the same as a prom, and hopefully make the tickets cheaper.
Some ideas for the banquet have been venues along the Seacoast that host around 300 people such as golf courses and places with a nice setting. The student council eventually settled on holding it at the Rockingham Country Club on June 1.
The biggest issue in planning the banquet was finding a date that worked for everyone and worked around sports and finals, according to Geoffrey Jablonski, the student council advisor and PHS science teacher.
“[It’s] a summer theme, and summer outfits,” Jablonski said. “We want students to dress how they want.”
“Fundraising from past years has helped earn money for prom, such as making a lot of money from bake sales,” said Delaney Cook, PHS senior and student council member. More key fundraisers have been parent support through Rally Up, cookie dough fundraiser, homecoming and using GoFundMe from people in the community.
With a beautiful setting at the Rockingham Country Club, a magnificent theme focused on summer, and several dependable sources of fundraising, this senior banquet is looking to be a sensation and one to remember. Be on the lookout for tickets and more information in the future.
