The Zen Zone is a new safe place for Portsmouth High School students. PHS Librarian Heather Raab funded the Zen Zone from her own pocket, and her purpose was to make a space where people can forget about stress throughout their day.
Raab mentioned that they received donations of puzzles and other sticker boards, and the Zen Zone is just another addition to the library. Raab hopes the Zen Zone will help groups positively use the library.
“The library is supposed to be a place for everyone,” said Raab.
The new additions have increased the library’s traffic. Raab’s Flex has been filled with students who want to check out the puzzles and activities. Students can pop down any time they need to gain focus and release stress.
“Mrs. Raab made it very inviting,” said Porter Lalime, a PHS Sophomore.
“It puts me in the zone where I can freely think with no distractions,” said Max Bonita, a PHS Junior.
Upgrades will be made to the Zen Zone throughout time, and Raab thinks that having this space will help with the student’s mental health.
The future of the Zen Zone is bright. It plans to be evolving and trying to meet the student’s wants and needs. Flex yourself in the Library and check out the Zen Zone for yourself.
