As the school year winds down, the activities students love come to an end. For many seniors, whether it be a sport, music ensemble or club, parting ways with that special extracurricular, is challenging. For the seniors of Portsmouth High School’s drama department, the only way to go out is with a bang.

While sports teams and the marching band have Senior Night, a time to recognize seniors for their hard work and dedication, PHS drama students are putting on a show. The Senior Cabaret, which took place on May 29th, featuree many drama seniors, whom we have enjoyed seeing on stage for the better part of four years. From The Wiz, to High School Musical, seniors performed their favorite songs from their four years of fruitful performance. Performances from personal song selections, a medley of some favorites from each play, and a ten minute play written by PHS senior Elle Shaheen.

‘’It’s something that’s completely student run and we’re really coming together to put on this show for the last couple weeks of high school.’’ said Ashley Cooper, a senior. The seniors have completely taken the show to the next level on their own. Everything is being performed, coordinated, choreographed and designed by students.  Josh Goldberg, senior, has also composed his own medley of songs from each of the shows that the students have performed in at school.

‘’I’m most excited for the medley,’’ says senior Mary Jardine. ‘’Josh Goldberg has composed a medley of some of the biggest hits from out musicals over the past four years and I think that will be really fun because whether everyone was in the play or not, everyone will be singing and dancing together and it’s going to be great.’’

Some past performances that were featured include The Wiz, In The Heights, Chicago, High School Musical and Once On This Island. The Cabaret is on May 29th at 5 PM in the Portsmouth High School Auditorium
